Resumen

This article focuses on the structure of two sectors that have been precursors of economic growth for the last two decades and their transformation in the timeline. Initially, the manufacturing industry was considered the engine of economic growth in almost all countries due to the intensive application of new technology and innovation; In Mexico, this point was not the exception. However, the generation of structural changes due to commercial rearrangements has caused this sector to lose dynamism and power within the economic field; currently, it has been displaced by the services sector in trade due to its increase in demand and introduction next-generation technologies. For macroeconomic analysis purposes, time-series tools were applied to test the hypothesis, mainly: stationary analysis (unit root tests), cointegration tests, and structural change. The variables included in the study are the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and its breakdown of the sector into manufacturing industries (MAN) and wholesale and retail services (TS) in the period 1993-2019.
